This is currently used as horse paddocks and there are other locations that can provide this along the hill, where as this could provide some much needed housing. HBC are looking to develop the majority of the Campdown area east of the golf course.
445Portsdown Hill (Q46)Question 46b: Do you have any further comments or suggestions about the suggested approach to Policy S9?Concerned due to the roads in the area. Inexperienced drivers arent suited to drive in this area. There is NHS parking and new learners on small roads that are very busy and extremely dangerous in adverse weather. Before focus is placed on building, the road network needs to be better to allow for all vehicles as well as cyclists. It is beautiful to visit and much to explore but is already oversubscribed with visitors and little room to cater for them all.

To make Portsdown Hill more of a tourist destination, especially to see the views of Portsmouth and the IOW from the top, maybe a funicular railway could be built to make getting to the top easier and cut down on car use

686sue.cranePortsdown Hill (Q46)Question 46b: Do you have any further comments or suggestions about the suggested approach to Policy S9?All my visitors to Portsmouth over many years have been amazed at Portsdown Hill open space and the view of the city; it is a treasure beyond words; please take good care of it. I learnt in my A level Geography that, because of its alignment it is not geographically linked to the South Downs, but is the first, or the last, foothill of the Himalayan Chain, which also raised the Alps...... facts can change, but in my heart, it is wonderful to know that we are part of the mighty Himalayas!
710andersonrPortsdown Hill (Q46)Question 46b: Do you have any further comments or suggestions about the suggested approach to Policy S9?There needs to be safer ways to cross roads, e.g. the Portsdown Hill Road from the car park over towards Hilltop Crescent and/near Farlington Avenue which is very dangerous currently for walkers.
